Do You Have These Symptoms?
If you have any of these symptoms, you may have appendicitis. Don't wait for it to pass and don't take laxatives. Message me or go to the emergency room: appendicitis does not heal on its own.
Pain That Starts Around the Belly Button
and then moves to the lower right side of your abdomen.
Pain That Gets Worse When You Move
when you walk, cough, jump or ride over bumps.
Nausea, Vomiting and Loss of Appetite
that start shortly after the pain begins.
Fever and a Tender Belly
with a hard abdomen or sharp pain when you press on it.
What Is Appendicitis and Why Is It an Emergency?
Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix, a small pouch attached to the large intestine. It is the most common reason for emergency abdominal surgery.
Once inflamed, the appendix can burst within 24 to 72 hours and cause an infection throughout the abdomen (peritonitis) or an abscess.
This is called complicated appendicitis: surgery takes longer, the hospital stay is longer and recovery is slower.
That's why the sooner it is treated, the better.
The good news: when treated in time, recovery is fast, and you can live a completely normal life without your appendix.

How Do I Perform Your Appendectomy?
I perform the appendectomy laparoscopically, the safest technique with the fastest recovery. Here's how it works:
Immediate Evaluation
I examine you, confirm the diagnosis with lab work and imaging, and explain the plan. If you have appendicitis, surgery is done the same day.

Surgery
Under general anesthesia, I make 3 small incisions (0.5 to 1 cm) and remove the appendix with the help of a camera. It takes 45 to 60 minutes in most cases.

After Surgery
You're up and walking the same day. For uncomplicated appendicitis, most patients go home in about 24 hours. Complicated cases usually stay 2 to 4 days.
Recovery
Most patients return to desk work in 1 to 2 weeks and to heavy lifting or intense exercise in 3 to 4 weeks. I follow up with you directly on WhatsApp.

Coming from San Diego or California?
If you develop abdominal pain while visiting Tijuana, or on the U.S. side of the border, I can see you the same day. Here are the advantages:
Close to the border: my office is at NewCity Medical Plaza, about 15 minutes from the San Ysidro crossing.
Same-day evaluation: I can see you the same day, even at night or on weekends.
No long ER waits: you avoid the long waits common in many U.S. emergency rooms.
Clear pricing: an uncomplicated appendectomy costs about US$2,200 to US$3,300, including hospital, surgeon, anesthesia and follow-up visits.
Ride home by car: after discharge, most patients can ride back to San Diego by car as a passenger.
Bilingual care: I speak English and Spanish, so communication is never a problem.

Frequently asked questions
How much does an appendectomy cost in Tijuana?
About US$2,200 to US$3,300 (MX$40,000 to MX$60,000) for uncomplicated cases, including hospital, surgeon, anesthesia and follow-up visits. Complicated appendicitis costs more because it requires more surgery and hospital time.
How long is the hospital stay?
About 24 hours for uncomplicated appendicitis, and usually 2 to 4 days for complicated cases.
How soon can I fly after an appendectomy?
Most patients can ride home by car the day they are discharged. For flights, I'll clear you at your follow-up visit, usually within a few days to a week.
Can appendicitis be treated with antibiotics instead of surgery?
In some selected cases, yes, but about 3 in 10 patients get appendicitis again. I'll explain the best option for you at your evaluation.
Are there any large scars left?
No. The 3 incisions are 0.5 to 1 cm and become barely visible over time. That's one of the advantages of laparoscopy.
Do you accept health insurance?
I work with major Mexican health insurance companies. If you have U.S. insurance, you pay directly, and the cost is clear before surgery.
How long is recovery?
Most patients return to desk work in 1 to 2 weeks.
Heavy lifting and intense exercise usually resume in 3 to 4 weeks.
Is it safe to have surgery in Tijuana?
I operate in established private hospitals in Tijuana with modern laparoscopic equipment, and I personally follow up with you throughout your recovery.
